What’s the deal with pączki?

In short, pączki are deep fried balls of dough filled with jam and topped with sugar. Nothing special right? WHAT?! They’ve got a long history- dating back as early as 1485 in the form of the Jewish “sufganiyah,” moving across continents and cultures until finally culminating into the “church basment” pączki made by Polish babushki in Hamtramck and Detroit we know and love. They’re delicate texture is surprisingly rich, flavored with vanilla, eggs, and rum. And on top of that they’re filled with real fruit fillings and scratch-made creams such as

  • Apricot

  • Blueberry

  • Cherry

  • Chocolate

  • Lemon Custard

  • Prune

  • Raspberry

  • Rum Custard

Between pączki’s storied history, rich flavor, and wonderful fillings it’s easy to understand why these aren’t just your typical jelly donuts! But when can you get them?

Pączki will first be available on Saturday, February 3rd, what we call “Pączki Practice Day.” After that, they’ll next be available on the main event… Fat Tuesday! Pączki Day! Tuesday, February 13th!
