We're Still Here

After a long and difficult hiatus, I'm pretty much back. I haven't been able to write because, as many of you know, my husband Ken, died in September of cancer. The bakery will surely miss his research, his creativity in making soups (he left lots of recipes), his labor-saving gadgets and equipment repairs, and his willingness to pitch in wherever he was needed. I will miss so much more.

I'm doing pretty well, the staff has taken great care of me and has done a great job of taking care of the bakery. Friends and neighbors have held me close. I am grateful for a community that cares.

Everything in all of our lives has greatly changed during this year but at Sarkozy Bakery we are doing our best to make things seem as normal as possible. We’re making all of our holiday treats and continuing to bake the bread and pastries that you depend on. For pictures and descriptions, go to our web site at https://www.sarkozybakery.com/holiday

During the holidays one of our most dreaded tasks is grating all that zest.  Alec found the answer! Recently a bakery in England designed tools to go on the power take-off of any stand mixer which rotates the citrus while you hold the zester. To see it in action so you can appreciate how fast it is, here is a link.

If you want to see a real pro (Alec) use it.,

This year we have put together a list of stocking stuffers, or they can be neighborhood hello and thank you gifts. We have a long way to go before COVID is under control and I am trying to do better at being an active neighbor. Enough Judy, get on with the list!

Stocking Stuffers:
because many of the stockings may be distant this year, we chose things that can be sent through the mail and will keep and keep.
Chocolate Rum Balls
Chocolate Hazelnut balls
Chocolate Babka
Cranberry Orange Quickbread
Russian Tea Cakes

And our new Enamel Pins! Just right to adorn your backpack straps or hat or whatever. Your choice of a baguette or croissant or both to announce your love of Sarkozy baked goods. These were designed for us by Callie Rodriguez.

For the third year in a row, we have been awarded Top-rated Café and Top-rated Bakery in the Kalamazoo area by Trip Advisor. The comments that are recorded on the plaque are very touching.“Best in the city hands down!” And “A staple in Kalamazoo for a reason!”. You can read them all when you come into the store.

We have curbside pick up, in-store takeout, and online ordering and we are always masked and are assiduously washing our hands and sanitizing surfaces for your safety and for our safety. This too shall pass but we must stay the course.

My best to you,
Judy
