Covid and Spring

I swear I heard Spring peepers the other night (unfortunately their frequency is very close to the frequency ringing in my ears so I sometimes imagine them when I need to believe they are there). And pussy willows are out, cattails on the way, bud covers are decorating our streets. I hope this very warm weather doesn’t bring out the fruit blossoms too soon. We could still have a nasty cold snap and much of what I look forward to in Summer is Michigan fruit.

Now is the time for all the glorious Spring products. Chocolate Babka mixing the flavors of orange and chocolate and butter: Chocolate/Cherry Galettes, Babka Bunnies with their rich egg/butter/citrus melding, Polenta Cake with toasted almond meal, butter, and cornmeal, so moist and not too sweet, Josephine’s Anise Bread, and on and on.

See you tomorrow (or this afternoon)!

We are going to take a Covid break next week. Because the staff are going to get their second jabs and may feel pretty punk, we have decided to close for a few days so they can recover. Ergo, we will be:

TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR COVID VACCINATIONS

Monday, April 5TH thru Wednesday, April 7th

Re-open  at 7:30 am
Thursday, April 8th

In about two weeks we will all be protected with two vaccinations and the wait time. We will be greatly relieved and, I expect, a touch giddy. We are waiting to see what happens to this latest surge and the Easter surge that will inevitably follow before we decide when we will open up the in-store seating. There are so many unknowns and the stakes are so high. We have been very cautious so far and will continue on that path.

Spring flowers are poking their heads out so keep a lookout for these ephemeral gems as they lead us out of the winter.

Love,

Judy
